| Morphological Characteristics | The colonies were 0.5-1 mm in diameter, circular with an irregular margin, and opaque. They were grayish-white in color and surrounded by an alpha-hemolytic zone. The colonies were convex in elevation with a smooth surface. Microscopic examination revealed Gram-positive (blue-violet) diplococci. The culture was pure. |
